All Brochures Are Not Created Equal

Trick Question: What talks more than two gossiping women? Answer: Brochures; they continue talking long after the conversation is over. Brochures are a wonderful way to share information. The question then becomes, what is your brochure saying about you?

1. Presentation Depending on your situation, the way a brochure is presented says a lot about the information inside. Do you want yours to be casual, responsive or thought-provoking? Casual brochures give the reader the opportunity to choose what interests them and read it at their leisure. EX: displayed outside of a school performance, doctor's office, hotel lobby or a trade show. Responsive pieces require the reader to take some sort of action EX: invitations, menus or mail-outs with coupons. Thought-provoking pamphlets, on the other hand, have information that the reader must deliberate. EX: when marketing a business, as a sales tool, or at an open house.

2. Shape Brochures are essentially an informative piece of paper that can be folded. However, the possibilities are endless and the meaning is profound. Folding the paper in half, promotes a sense of straight-forwardness. The information inside cuts right to the chase and the reader feels certain it can be trusted. The traditional tri-fold style allows for more panels of display. This causes excitement as the reader's eyes bounce from one section to another. Simply adding more folds and shifting the orientation of the brochure creates a whimsical touch for the information it holds.

brochure23. Style You must also consider the choice of font, texture and finish. Elegant fonts and bold fonts set completely different tones. Are your words whispering to the reader or emphasizing a point? Adding a rough texture can generate interest. Whereas, a smooth finish encourages confidence and a modern feel. Most people believe the content of a document is important. It is - to an extent. When your reader has your brochure, they are holding more than a mere piece of paper. They are holding a persuasive piece of art.
